Last Words of a Daughter
BUKIT MERTAJAM: “Mummy, I’m in so much pain!” These heart-wrenching words were the last ones spoken by Lee Zi Rou, 21, as she lay crushed beneath a cargo container, just moments before her death. Despite her immense pain, she managed to call her mother, Lim, to say goodbye.
A Mother’s Worst Fears Realized
At 9:24 a.m., Lim received the call. “I had a feeling something terrible had happened,” she recalled through tears during an interview with China Press. When her daughter didn’t answer further questions, Lim’s worry turned to panic.
A Desperate Search
Lim immediately asked her other daughter to drive to the route Lee took to work, calling her phone repeatedly. Eventually, a stranger picked up, relaying the tragic news that Lee was trapped under a fallen container. When Lim arrived eight minutes later, it was too late. Through sobs, she shared that she had desperately begged for help to free her daughter, but the container was simply too heavy.
Final Hopes Shattered
“I thought she might survive because she had the strength to call me,” Lim tearfully recounted.
Funeral and Investigation Details
Lee’s funeral is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Berapit Crematorium. Meanwhile, the trailer driver, 51, was brought to court yesterday and will be held for four days for investigation. He faces charges of causing death by reckless driving, an offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison, a fine of RM50,000, and a long-term license disqualification.
Accident Circumstances
Initial tests for drugs and alcohol returned negative results. The accident occurred at Jalan Bukit Tengah, where the driver reportedly lost control, causing the container to topple and crush Lee’s car. Another driver, Tan Chou Theng, 25, was also injured but is recovering in the hospital.
