Tourism Benefits Amplified
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and China’s new 30-day visa-free entry agreement will boost tourism and enhance economic collaboration, according to the Malaysian Tourism Federation.
Datuk Tan Kok Liang, its president, praised China’s move to match Malaysia’s 30-day visa-free duration for Chinese nationals. He highlighted the mutual benefits, stating the extended period offers Malaysians greater opportunities to explore China’s culture and geography.
A Boost for the Travel Industry
“The implementation date is confirmed, and this arrangement will greatly benefit both nations,” said Tan. “Longer stays mean higher tourism revenue and more cultural exchanges.”
China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry announced on Nov 22 that Malaysians could enjoy visa-free entry from Nov 30, 2023, to Dec 31, 2025. Local travel agencies are preparing for a surge in demand. Many plan to introduce extended and customized tour packages to attract travelers.
Strengthened Economic Partnerships
The visa policy also strengthens business ties. Tan encouraged Malaysian entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in China’s vast markets, especially in manufacturing, construction, and IT. “This policy allows businesses more time to establish meaningful connections,” he added.
A Call for Permanent Visa-Free Arrangements
Datuk Beh Hang Kong, director of the Malaysia Chinese Business Council, praised the agreement for its convenience and savings on visa fees. “This reflects the strong trust and friendship between Malaysia and China,” he said.
Both leaders advocated for making the visa-free policy permanent. However, they emphasized the importance of monitoring to prevent abuse and maintain security. “A permanent arrangement must balance growth with integrity,” said Tan.
