UPNM Bullying: Victim Injured | Cadet’s Statement Sought

KUALA LUMPUR: Nine individuals have been questioned by police as part of the ongoing investigation into the recent bullying case at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM).

UPNM Bullying: Victim Injured | Cadet’s Statement Sought

Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, the police chief of Kuala Lumpur, confirmed that the statements were recorded from the 19-year-old victim and eight other individuals since the police report was filed on November 8.

“The cadet who is suspected of being involved in the incident will provide his statement later today at Cheras police station. The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code,” Comm Rusdi explained.

Public Urged to Avoid Speculation

The police chief also appealed to the public not to speculate on the case.

“We urge everyone to allow the police to conduct their investigation without interference,” he said.

Details of the Alleged Bullying Incident

The incident revolves around allegations of bullying at UPNM that caused injury to the victim.

According to a police report filed on November 8 at 8:40 pm, the victim, a first-year student, suffered injuries after a roll call on October 21.

“The victim, aged 19, suffered fractures to his ribs and spine after being stepped on by a third-year cadet. He is currently receiving medical treatment,” Comm Rusdi said.

Minister’s Strong Stance on Bullying

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stressed that bullying in any form is completely unacceptable.

“Such incidents are intolerable and affect the reputation of UPNM and other institutions of higher learning. We will cooperate fully with the authorities during this investigation,” he concluded.
