Suspect to Face Charges in Designer’s Murder Case

The suspect in the murder of interior designer Muhammad Sharqawi Abu Bakar, aged 36, will be formally charged in the Petaling Jaya Court tomorrow, according to a statement from the Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar.

The 50-year-old suspect, who is currently unemployed, was apprehended alongside two others during a police operation at an apartment in Kuala Lumpur on Sept 20. The police have disclosed that the suspect’s motive was theft, which tragically led to the death of the victim.

Shahrulnizam explained that the suspect had allegedly broken into the victim’s house with the intention of stealing but was confronted by Muhammad Sharqawi. This confrontation escalated into a violent struggle, ultimately resulting in the victim’s death.

The incident occurred on Sept. 16, when Muhammad Sharqawi was found at his home in Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara, suffering from over 20 stab wounds. The case, initially treated as a break-in, was reclassified as a robbery leading to death after authorities discovered several personal belongings had been taken from the crime scene.
