JOHOR BARU: Police arrested three individuals, including a married couple, and seized drugs valued at over RM700,000 in Bandar Seri Alam.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak reported that the arrests took place at 9:30 PM on October 18, following a week-long surveillance operation by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
Officers apprehended the suspects while they allegedly prepared to deliver drugs to other syndicate members, who remain at large. Supt Sohaimi stated, “We believe this group is part of a larger network, functioning as couriers transporting drugs from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru.”
The suspects had collected the drugs and were waiting for pickup by other syndicate members in the area. Authorities will turn over the vehicle used to store and transport the drugs to those responsible for distribution.
Police suspect that a 58-year-old local man leads the operation, assisted by his 45-year-old foreign wife and a 40-year-old driver. All three individuals tested negative for drug use. Background checks revealed that the local man has two previous drug-related offences, while the driver has seven and the woman has one.
This group has operated since July. Police seized 20 packets of syabu weighing approximately 22kg, valued at RM705,472. Each packet weighs around 1kg and is worth over RM30,000.
Additionally, authorities confiscated the syndicate’s vehicle, valued at RM45,000. The suspects remain in remand until Thursday, October 31, to assist with ongoing investigations. Police are examining the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
