China’s world number one mixed doubles pair, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, have won their first Olympic gold medal at the Paris Olympics, making up for their loss in the Tokyo Olympics final.
The badminton mixed doubles final was one-sided, with Zheng and Huang defeating South Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Jung Na-eun, ranked eighth in the world, 21-8, 21-11.
This victory marks China’s first badminton gold at the Paris Olympics and their fifth mixed doubles gold in Olympic history.
The win also brings China’s total gold medal count at the Paris Olympics to 13. In the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, Zheng and Huang were the top seeds but lost in the final to teammates Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping, settling for silver. This time, they have finally achieved their Olympic dream.
