Fire Breaks Out at Hougang Block
On Thursday, January 9, a devastating fire broke out at Block 971 Hougang Street 91, leading to the death of three individuals and prompting the evacuation of dozens of residents. The fire was first reported at around 12:40 pm.
Victims Found Inside the Unit
During the firefighting efforts, two victims were discovered in a bedroom of the affected unit, with a third body found later in the evening. The SCDF reported difficulties entering the unit due to the large number of items inside.

Nearby residents reported hearing loud bangs and noticing the thick smoke. Clarence Lee, a hawker living across the street, described seeing white smoke and smelling something burning.
Personal Stories from Evacuated Residents
Said, a resident living on the second floor, shared that the unit’s occupant was an elderly man who regularly walked his dog. A 50-year-old housewife also shared her experience of evacuating with her mother, unable to return home for hours.
