KUALA LUMPUR: The future of Malaysian football was a focal point as Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, convened a high-level meeting with Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and FAM president Tan Sri Hamidin Amin in Johor Bahru.
The meeting followed the 2025 Budget announcement and addressed critical issues concerning the national team and youth programs.
This initiative comes after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of RM15 million dedicated to football development, primarily for acquiring top coaches, enhancing training programs, and providing player incentives.
“Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the Regent of Johor, welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on Oct 23, where various topics regarding current affairs and Johor were discussed.
“FAM president Hamidin and Sports Minister Hannah also participated in discussions about the Malaysian football team’s development and future plans,” the statement noted.
These discussions signify a coordinated effort between the government, FAM, and Johor royalty to elevate Malaysia’s football aspirations.
Targeted investments in the national, Under-18, and Under-13 teams aim to strengthen Malaysia’s international football presence and cultivate local talent.
