CHENNAI (Reuters): A significant number of Samsung Electronics workers at a plant in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, have initiated an indefinite strike over wage disputes, affecting the plant’s output significantly.
According to a union leader, the action follows similar strikes by Samsung’s largest union in South Korea. The local union leader, E. Muthukumar, reported that approximately 50% of the plant’s daily production capabilities were compromised as many workers stayed away.
Samsung is making efforts to manage the situation by hiring contract staff, particularly with the upcoming festive season expected to boost electronic sales.
