Meta Platforms Inc., the parent company of Facebook, is set to deploy facial recognition technology to identify and block scam advertisements that misuse celebrity images to lure users.
These ‘celeb-bait ads’ often redirect users to malicious sites aimed at stealing personal information or soliciting money. By matching images from ads with those on a celebrity’s official social media profiles, Meta aims to enhance user security.
Additionally, Meta plans to use this technology to verify identities of users locked out of their accounts through video selfies, promising to delete any facial data post-verification.
