Shah Alam LRT3: A Game-Changer for Klang Valley Transit
PETALING JAYA: The new LRT3 line, set to launch next September, is poised to improve connectivity across the western Klang Valley, capable of serving 200,000 passengers daily.
Expanding Capacity and Reach
The Shah Alam Line will cover a 37km route from Kampung Johan Setia in Klang to Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, with an initial capacity of 6,210 passengers per hour per direction. By 2028, capacity will increase to 7,341 pphpd with five previously cut stations reinstated due to revised budgets.
Additional Infrastructure and Resources
In addition to the new stations, the government has allocated funds for seven train sets, 150 electric buses, and two supporting depots to enhance services.
Prasarana’s Vision and Budget Adjustments
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd’s president, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, highlighted these updates before Rapid KL’s 20th anniversary, clarifying that the reinstatement will cost around RM4.2 billion instead of RM5.3 billion.
Project Timeline and Future Prospects
With 96% of the project completed, the Shah Alam LRT is expected to start regulatory tests by April, with additional stations operational by early 2028.
