Dewan Rakyat to Address Employment Issues for Disabled Individuals

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat will prioritize discussions on enhancing job opportunities for disabled individuals during its sitting on Monday (March 3). The session aims to address barriers that hinder employment accessibility for people with disabilities.

Dewan Rakyat Concerns Over Workplace Accessibility and Employer Attitudes

According to the official Order Paper from Parliament’s website, Datuk Adnan Abu Hassan (BN-Kuala Pilah) will raise a question to the Human Resources Minister regarding efforts to improve job prospects for disabled individuals. Many employers remain hesitant to hire disabled workers due to concerns over workplace accessibility, readiness, and overall awareness.

Economic and Industrial Development Strategies

Additionally, Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim (PN-Kuala Terengganu) is set to question the Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister regarding strategic measures to integrate the raw materials sector with manufacturing and processing industries. This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s goal of strengthening its semiconductor industry as a key pillar of the high-tech economy.

Infrastructure and Road Maintenance Issues

Another critical issue on the agenda includes road safety. Datuk Wetrom Bahanda (KDM-Kota Marudu) will seek clarification from the Works Minister on steps taken to repair pothole-damaged federal roads that pose safety risks to motorists.

Agricultural Data and Food Security Concerns

Meanwhile, Hassan Saad (PN-Baling) will inquire about the results of the 2024 Agricultural Census and how they will contribute to national food security efforts through the MySAgR database.

Healthcare Workforce Shortages

In the healthcare sector, Suhaizan Kaiat (PH-Pulai) has posed a question to the Health Minister about the resignation of nurses within the Health Ministry, their reasons for leaving, and the workforce demands in both existing and newly developed medical facilities.

Upcoming Legislative Discussions

After the Q&A session, the Dewan Rakyat sitting will proceed with the second reading of the Supplementary Supply Bill (2024) 2025 by the Finance Minister, followed by discussions on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2025.

Dewan Rakyat Negara Session Commences

Simultaneously, the Dewan Negara sitting also begins today and is scheduled to run until March 25.
