JOHOR BARU: Eight people were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during a recent roadblock at Jalan Daya and Jalan Mutiara Emas Utama.

Details of the Operation

The operation, part of “Ops Mabuk,” took place in the early hours of Tuesday (Nov 26), from 1am to 5am, according to Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat.

Arrests and Legal Action

“Six people were arrested under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for exceeding the legal alcohol limit,” he said. “The other two were caught for reckless driving against traffic flow and tested positive for drugs, falling under Sections 42(1) and 15(1)(a) of the relevant transport and drug laws.”

Summons and Vehicle Inspections

All suspects were released on bail and will appear before the Johor Baru Magistrate’s Court on a later date.
In total, 116 individuals, including 98 men and 18 women between 18 and 65 years old, were checked during the operation. The authorities also inspected 97 vehicles, including 74 cars, 15 motorcycles, and eight others.

Traffic Violations and Safety Emphasis

The operation led to 40 summonses issued for violations like driving without a license, running red lights, and modified exhausts.
ACP Raub stressed the importance of road safety, emphasizing that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs not only violates the law but also poses significant dangers to everyone on the road.
