August 2, 2024, will be a day to remember for China’s mixed doubles badminton player Huang Yaqiong. Not only did she win the gold medal with her partner Zheng Siwei at the Paris Olympics, but she was also proposed to by her boyfriend, Liu Yuchen.
Huang joyfully accepted the proposal, making the day even more special. The world’s top-ranked “Yang/Lu” duo, Zheng and Huang, redeemed themselves from their Tokyo Olympics loss by defeating South Korea’s Kim Won-ho and Jung Na-eun 21-8, 21-11 in the mixed doubles final.
After the match, Liu Yuchen, who is also a Chinese men’s doubles player, proposed to Huang on the court at the La Chapelle Arena, holding flowers and a ring.
Huang accepted, sealing their love story. The couple had gone public with their relationship in May, and this proposal added a fairy-tale ending to their Olympic journey.
