Faster Response Time Saves Lives
PETALING JAYA: In situations like cardiac arrest, time is the most critical factor for saving lives. To address this, the MyresQ medical app was developed to accelerate emergency response by alerting nearby responders.
A Vital Link in the Chain of Survival
This innovative app, launched in March, bridges the crucial “last mile” in the survival chain. It has been used in 459 emergencies nationwide, with nearly 28% of cases involving sudden cardiac arrests. Other incidents include fainting and chest pain.
Comprehensive Features for Emergencies
Notably, the app features an extensive database of 360 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and connects users to 5,805 certified rescuers. It also pinpoints the emergency’s exact location to expedite assistance.
The Inspiration Behind MyresQ
Dr. Mohd Afiq Mohd Nor, the app’s co-founder and an emergency physician at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, explained that the idea originated in late 2022 after a bystander was unable to perform CPR during a medical crisis. Recognizing the need for a streamlined system, Dr. Afiq and his team spent three months developing and testing the app.
Aiming for Faster On-the-Ground Help
He emphasized that MyresQ aims to deploy responders within a 500m radius to assist victims in under four minutes, significantly reducing the typical ambulance response time of 17–20 minutes.
CPR and AED: Key to Survival
Dr. Afiq also stressed the importance of CPR and AED use within the first 10 minutes of cardiac arrest to prevent brain damage. He encouraged users to upload AED locations to the app and highlighted how even non-responders can activate the system to save lives.
Nationwide Accessibility
The app, accessible nationwide, seamlessly connects users to emergency services while facilitating swift life-saving actions.
